Prerequisite: Employment working for an electrical contractor (or instructor approval). Courses cover minimum requirements for approval of electrical installation as specified by the National Electric Code (NEC). Examination of all aspects of electrical installation from the standpoint of safety for personnel and equipment. Covers principles of electricity including proper use of test equipment, A/C and D/C circuits and component theory and operations. Students are responsible for learning materials and supplies. Topics include load calculations and safety in electrical work, installation of wiring, load protection, ground fault, and other devices commonly used in 110 volt household applications. An introductory study of the NEC for those employed in fields requiring knowledge of the Code. Emphasis on wiring design, protection, methods, and materials; equipment for general use; and basic calculations. Students are responsible for learning materials and supplies.
